Removing the control surfaces

The control surfaces are being removed from the catalina by our professional staff and contracted specialists.

Above, each little screw is being painstakingly removed with specialised equipment - there are not only rivets that have to be removed.

Some more pictures of the process - note the bird's nest found in the panels. The control surfaces will be taken to a specialist who will re-cover them to the highest standards. It is fortunate that such a specialist still exists at Rand airport - it is apparently a scarce profession these days.
